Laughing Berry Tours is an independent, guided tour, created by owner/operator Lindarae Shearer so that you can experience Metlakatla’s cultural and natural history first-hand. Enjoy first-hand viewing of Tsimshian totem poles. This tour promises to make your visit a very memorable one as you experience Metlakatla in one of our comfortable tour vans!
THE SIGHTS
There are many historic stops on this two-hour tour, including some or all of the following: Purple Mountain and Waterfall Duncan Cottage Museum
Yellow Hill World War II airfield, control tower and hangar Indigenous plant life (including the “Laughing Berry”)
Churches and other historic buildings
The actual residence of Anglican missionary William Duncan, built by Tsimshian carpenters, early 1900s
Fireweed grows wild along Metlakatla's roadsides.
After your two-hour tour you will be free to walk about Metlakatla and see any sights you might wish to see on your own, or, rent a car or van from Metlakatla Car Rentals.
There are totem poles located around town you might want to visit and photograph. You may wish to climb Yellow Hill and/or take advantage of a home-style restaurant for lunch at the Metlakatla Hotel and Restaurant.
HOW TO GET TO METLAKATLA
Metlakatla is on an island that is not connected to the mainland in any way. Therefore the only way to get here is by small plane or boat (ferry, private ships or cruise ships). Laughing Berry Tours recommends you fly from Ketchikan or Ketchikan International Airport with ProMech Air on one of their Cessnas, Beavers or deHavilland Otters. The flight is about ten minutes in duration over the beautiful Pacific Ocean to Annette Island and Metlakatla.

Metlakatla will have its own daily shuttle ferry service by midyear 2004. The Alaska ferry is named the "Lituya" and will be for the exclusive use of people coming to or leaving
Metlakatla.
